Areas of fog still linger reducing visibility in a number of locations. There remain a few localized places where visibility is as low as one mile. Visibility will continue to improve through the early morning hours. But motorists should still be prepared for changes in visibility along their route and exercise extra caution.

Thinning clouds, light winds, and ample low-level moisture are helping areas of fog to develop and become locally dense early this morning. This fog will likely remain the densest closer to the Mountain Parkway and points north. Visibilities will be below a quarter of a mile, at times, in the thickest of the fog. Be sure to slow down and use your low beam headlights when you encounter any fog.

Local surface observations and webcams show areas of fog across far western NY in vicinity of Lake Erie this morning. Some of this fog may be locally dense, with visibilities down to a half mile or less at times. Fog is expected to dissipate by 9 AM this morning. If driving this morning, allow extra time to reach your destination and be prepared for rapid changes to visibility.

* Many people will be recreating outdoors on this Memorial Day, and people may underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatures which are currently only in the lower 50s on the lakes and around 50 on the rivers. * The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to anyone immersed in the water. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline.
