* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of south central Virginia, including the following counties and independent cities, City of Danville, City of Martinsville, Henry and Pittsylvania. * WHEN...Until 645 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Overflowing poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 335 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Bassett Branch, Childress Creek, Birch Creek, Buckhorn Branch, Beaver Creek, Dan River, Cascade Creek and Cane Creek. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Danville... Martinsville... Axton... Blairs... Ridgeway... Aiken Summit... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
