Northeastern Dare County in eastern North Carolina... * Until 1230 AM EDT. * At 1148 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Duck Coe Pier to Manns Harbor, moving east at 20 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Locations impacted include... Kill Devil Hills, Southern Shores, Nags Head, Manteo, Sanderling, Colington, Whalebone, Duck Coe Pier, Jockeys Ridge State Park, Roanoke Island Festival Park, Wright Brothers National Monument, Nags Head Fishing Pier, Avalon Pier, and Outer Banks Fishing Pier.

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Please send your reports of hail and/or wind damage, including trees or large limbs downed, by calling the National Weather Service office in Newport at 1-800-889-6889. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
