Description:
At 812 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Carrboro, or
near Chapel Hill, moving southeast at 25 mph.
HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Locations impacted include...
Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, Carrboro, Morrisville,
Jordan Lake, Research Triangle, Parkwood, and Carpenter.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 85 between Mile Markers 163 and 166.
Interstate 40 near Mile Marker 162, and between Mile Markers 259 and
278.
the Durham Freeway between Mile Markers 2 and 5.
Instruction:
Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly
from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the
basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.
This thunderstorm is capable of producing all types of severe
weather including large hail, damaging straight line winds and
tornadoes. Move quickly to a safe shelter, such as an interior room,
a bathroom or closet or basement.
