Description:
At 117 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 6
miles west of Beech Mountain, or 5 miles north of Elk Park, moving
southeast at 30 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Newland, Blowing Rock In Caldwell County, Banner Elk, Elk Park, Beech
Mountain In Avery County, Crossnore, Sugar Mountain, Seven Devils,
Grandfather Mountain State Park, and B.R. Parkway-Linville Falls To
Grandfather.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 800 PM EDT for
western North Carolina.
