* Flash Flood Warning for...
Western Putnam County in southeastern New York...
Northern Westchester County in southeastern New York...
* Until 615 AM EDT.
* At 415 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
heavy rain falling in Peekskill. Between 3.5 and 5.5 inches of
rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.75 to 2 inches
in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are
possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Peekskill, Mahopac, Cold Spring, Yorktown Heights, Fahnestock
State Park, Jefferson Valley, Putnam Valley, Croton-on-Hudson and
Buchanan.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
If you are in a basement, be prepared to move to a higher floor.
