Description:
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Dawson County in south central Nebraska...
* WHEN...Until 800 AM CDT.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Rises in small streams.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 310 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or
expected to begin shortly in the advisory area, especially in the
area between Lexington and Overton that received heavy rain
yesterday.
- This includes the following streams and drainages...
Elm Creek, Buffalo Creek, Crooked Creek, Spring Creek, Wood
River, French Creek, and Bell Creek. Additional rainfall amounts
of 1 to 3 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain
will result in minor flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Lexington, Cozad, Gothenburg, Overton, Eddyville and Willow
Island.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
