Description:
* WHAT...For the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions
with heat index values up to 114. For the Heat Advisory, heat index
values up to 107 expected. For the Extreme Heat Watch, dangerously
hot conditions with heat index values up to 105 possible.
* WHERE...Geary, Lyon, Morris, Wabaunsee, Brown, Jackson, Jefferson,
Nemaha, Pottawatomie, and Riley Counties.
* WHEN...For the Extreme Heat Warning, until 10 PM CDT this evening.
For the Heat Advisory, from 10 PM this evening to 7 PM CDT Sunday.
For the Extreme Heat Watch, from Monday evening through Tuesday
evening.
* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
extreme heat and high humidity events. Hot temperatures and high
humidity may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat
stroke.
Instruction:
Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
