Description:
At 142 PM CDT, a large severe thunderstorm extended from Chesterton
to Hebron to Hopkins Park, and was moving southeast at 45 mph. A
second severe thunderstorm was located over Calumet City, and was
moving southeast at 40 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and quarter
size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable
tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes,
roofs, and outbuildings.
Locations impacted include...
Hammond, Gary, Portage, Merrillville, Valparaiso, East Chicago,
Schererville, Hobart, Crown Point, Highland, Munster, Chesterton,
Cedar Lake, Lowell, DeMotte, Hebron, Momence, Wheatfield, Lake
Village, Griffith, Dyer, St. John, Lake Station, Lakes of the Four
Seasons, and South Haven.
Instruction:
Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly
from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the
basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.
