Description:
At 1103 PM HST, Doppler radar indicated diminished rainfall over Kauai. Rain rates are currently less than 1 inch per hour. Most rivers and streams have either leveled off or have begun to fall, though flooding impacts continue across the island. The Waimea River, however, continues to rise in response to significant runoff. Flash flooding is therefore increasingly likely along the lower elevations of southwest Kauai, including Kekaha, Waimea, Pakala Village and vicinity. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Gauges reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... The island of Kauai.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
