Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
July 8, 2026 - 1:24pm
Expires:
July 9, 2026 - 3:30am
Description:
* WHAT...Large breaking waves up to 11 feet expected in the surf
zone. Dangerous rip currents.
* WHERE...For the High Surf Advisory, along south and west facing
reefs of the Marianas. For the High Rip Current Risk, along
south, west, and north facing reefs of the Marianas.
* WHEN...For the High Surf Advisory, until 4 PM ChST Thursday.
For the High Rip Current Risk, through Friday afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and
localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best
swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Typhoon Bavi (09W) and the trailing
monsoon surge will keep producing significant swells from the
west and southwest. Large surf heights up to 11 feet can be
expected along west and south facing reefs at least through 4 PM
today. As Bavi continues to pull away and the leading monsoon
surge weakens, swells and associated surf will continue to
diminish. Even so, surf will remain elevated enough to continue
to produce high risk of rip currents along south, west, and north
facing reefs the next few days, while dropping to moderate along
north reefs Thursday.
Instruction:
Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers
should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.
Rip currents will be life threatening. If caught in a rip
current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If
able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to
escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
