Headline:
High Surf Advisory issued July 10 at 3:59PM ChST until July 11 at 4:00AM ChST by NWS Tiyan GU
Event:
High Surf Advisory
Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
July 9, 2026 - 10:59pm
Expires:
July 10, 2026 - 11:00am
Description:
* WHAT...Large breaking waves up to 10 feet in the surf zone.
Dangerous rip currents.
* WHERE...Along north, south, and west facing reefs of the Marianas.
* WHEN...Until 4 AM ChST Saturday.
* IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and
localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best
swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Significant west to southwest swells continue
to emanate from Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) and its trailing monsoon
pattern, maintaining hazardous surf and a high risk of rip currents
along north, south, and west facing reefs. So, the High Surf
Advisory and High Rip Current Risk have been extended through at
least early Saturday morning. As Bavi continues to pull away and
the leading monsoon surge weakens, swells and associated surf will
continue to diminish, potentially falling below hazardous levels by
Saturday morning.
Instruction:
Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers
should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.
Rip currents will be life threatening. If caught in a rip
current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If
able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to
escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
