The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Chinle Creek in Apache County in northeastern Arizona...
* Until 130 AM MDT.
* At 1030 PM MDT, a river gauge on the Chinle Creek in Canyon de
Chelly National Monument reported a rapid rise of 1.7 feet from
earlier thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area.
Between 0.75 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Flooding impacts
will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. Flash
flooding is already occurring.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
flash flooding.
SOURCE...River gauge reported.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
normally dry washes, urban areas, highways, streets and
underpasses.
* For Chinle Creek at Chinle Creek at Chinle:
At 10:00pm the stage was 4.07 feet.
Flood Stage is 4.0 feet.
Impacts:
At 3.6 feet: Chinle Creek becomes impassable to recreational
vehicles.
At 4.0 feet: Water begins to encroach upon structures just upstream
of the Highway 64 bridge near the Canyon de Chelly welcome center.
At 4.3 feet: Flooding to homes and residences in Chinle on left
bank downstream from Highway 64 bridge.

Cave Overlook.
This includes the following recreation areas and campgrounds...
Cottonwood Campground, Tsegi Overlook, Junction Overlook, White House
Overlook and Amtelope House Overlook.
This includes the following creeks, washes and rivers...
Nazlini Wash, Black Rock Canyon, Coyote Wash, Muerto, Canyon del,
Sheep Dip Creek, Agua Sal Creek, Chinle Wash and Tiis Ndiitsooi
Wash.
Instruction:
Flooding of washes and creeks will occur, some dirt roads will become
muddy and impassable. Paved roads and underpasses could become
flooded as well.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Low water crossings will become dangerous in heavy rain. Do not
attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
