Description:
At 649 PM MST /749 PM MDT/, local law enforcement reported flooding
along Route 54 and Route 12 in Fort Defiance from thunderstorms
producing heavy rain. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.
Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.25 inches are possible in the
warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
flash flooding.
SOURCE...Law enforcement reported.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
normally dry washes, urban areas, highways, streets and
underpasses.

Fort Defiance, Window Rock, Sanders, Houck, Querino, Hunters Point,
Oak Springs, Lupton, Window Rock Airport, Piney Hill, St. Michaels,
Pine Springs and Allentown.

Interstate 40 between mile markers 335 and 358. Highway 191 161 near
mile marker 368. State Route 264 between mile markers 463 and 475.
This includes the following creeks, washes and rivers...
Pueblo Colorado Wash, West Fork Black Creek, Black Creek, Bonito
Creek, Whitewater Arroyo, Quartzite Canyon, Burnt Piqon Wash, Black
Soil Wash, Kinlichee Creek, Wide Ruin Wash, Scattered Willow Wash,
Cienega Creek, Thsohotso Wash, Piney Hill Creek, Burntwater Wash,
Meadow Wash, Cold Spring Wash, Puerco River, Tse Bonito Wash and
Slick Rock Wash.
Instruction:
Flooding of washes and creeks will occur, some dirt roads will become
muddy and impassable. Paved roads and underpasses could become
flooded as well.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
Low water crossings will become dangerous in heavy rain. Do not
attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
