The National Weather Service in Tucson has extended the
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Southwestern Cochise County in southeastern Arizona...
* Until 1045 PM MST.
* At 904 PM MST, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms produced heavy
rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 1.8 inches of rain have
fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.2 inches are possible
in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Mainly rural areas of Southwestern Cochise County.
This includes the following highways...
Route 90 between mile markers 329 and 336. Route 80 between mile
markers 325 and 335.
This includes the following Flash Flood Prone Locations...
Davis Rd between HWY 80 & HWY 191.
Davis road from Highway 80 to Frontier Road is closed due to
flooding. There are likely other areas seeing flooding this evening.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
