Description:
At 1139 PM CDT, emergency management reported thunderstorms
producing heavy rain in Abilene. Between 3 and 6 inches of rain have
fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in
the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
flash flooding.
SOURCE...Emergency management reported.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Abilene, Chapman, Solomon, Enterprise, Talmage and Moonlight.
This includes Interstate 70 between mile markers 267 and 286.
At 1130pm, the Dickinson county EM reported numerous roads across
Abilene with 10 inches to 3 feet of flowing water over roads. K15
and 5th street in Abilene had 10 inches of water flowing over the
road.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and request they pass this information to the National
Weather Service when you can do so safely.
