...STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM QUICKLY INCREASES WINDS SUNDAY...
Winds have begun to increase across the southern panhandle this
afternoon as the low continues track northward. Currently, the
strongest winds are in Dixon Entrance and pushing into Clarence
Strait. This area is seeing sustained Gale force winds of 35 to 40
kts with occasional storm force gusts near 50 kts. Land Winds
have also begun to increase with the strongest gusts near 40 mph
currently over Ketchikan and southern Prince of Wales Island. Wind
gusts have increased the last few ours coming out of Taku Inlet
with gusts up to 40mph reported near Downtown Juneau. The strongest
wind gusts are still anticipated to be this evening as that low
moves just west of Baranof Island before diminishing through early
Monday morning.
* WHAT...East winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
* WHERE...Downtown Juneau and South Douglas Island.
* WHEN...From 1 PM Sunday to 1 AM AKDT Monday.
* IMPACTS...Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Use
extra caution if traveling by land, sea, or air.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Wind gusts have increased this afternoon
near Downtown Juneau and southern Douglas Island due to
increased winds coming out of Taku Inlet. Strongest winds are
likely to continue through this evening before diminishing
tomorrow morning. There is a chance that gusty winds will last
into Monday.

profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.
