...STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM QUICKLY INCREASES WINDS SUNDAY... Winds have begun to increase across the southern panhandle this afternoon as the low continues track northward. Currently, the strongest winds are in Dixon Entrance and pushing into Clarence Strait. This area is seeing sustained Gale force winds of 35 to 40 kts with occasional storm force gusts near 50 kts. Land Winds have also begun to increase with the strongest gusts near 40 mph currently over Ketchikan and southern Prince of Wales Island. Strongest wind gusts are still anticipated to be this evening as that low moves just west of Baranof Island before diminishing through early Monday morning. * WHAT...Northeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. * WHERE...City and Borough of Sitka. * WHEN...From 1 PM to 10 PM AKDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Use extra caution if traveling by land, sea, or air.
