Description:
At 618 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms over Wilkes County, North Carolina, moving northeast at 45 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph, pea size hail, and heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause poor drainage flooding. This area of heavy rain and thunderstorms will move across Wilkes, Yadkin, Allegheny, Surry, eastern Grayson and Carroll counties between now and 800 AM EDT.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Locally heavy rain will quickly reduce visibility and result in ponding of water on roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and minor flooding of creeks, streams, and areas of poor drainage. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution to avoid hydroplaning. Storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1100 AM EDT for northwestern North Carolina...and southwestern Virginia.
