Special Weather Statement
Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
March 28, 2026 - 3:41pm
Expires:
March 29, 2026 - 3:45am
Description:
Minimum relative humidity values between 20 and 35 percent and
very dry fuels will lead to an increased risk for wildfires
throughout central North Carolina on Sunday. While winds will be
fairly light, today's gusty winds already evaporated moisture from
the rain that fell across the area yesterday.
Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette
butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate
containers. Additionally, exercise caution if operating any
equipment that could create sparks and keep vehicles off of dry
grass. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could
easily ignite and spread fire quickly.
Please be reminded that a statewide burn ban issued by the NC
Forest Service is currently in place. Open burning of any kind is
illegal.
