Description:
At 1231 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Osyka to near Darlington. Movement was
southeast at 25 mph.
HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include...
Hammond, Franklinton, Greensburg, Amite, Amite City, Kentwood,
Independence, Roseland, Osyka, Montpelier, Darlington, Mount Herman,
Wilmer, Natalbany, Gillsburg, Easleyville, Tangipahoa, and Tickfaw.
This includes the following Interstates...
Interstate 12 near mile marker 40.
Interstate 55 in Louisiana between mile markers 33 and 66.
Interstate 55 in Mississippi between mile markers 1 and 7.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 400 AM CDT for southeastern
Louisiana...and southern Mississippi.
