Description:
At 545 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong
thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts over marine areas
along a line extending from 6 miles southwest of Houma to 6 miles
southeast of Chauvin to 11 miles east of Cocodrie. Movement was
northwest at 25 mph.
HAZARD...Waterspouts and winds in excess of 40 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally
hazardous waters. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs
and blow around unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include...
Houma, Montegut, Bayou Cane, Chauvin, Gray, and Dulac.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or
inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from
the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be
caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
