Significant snowmelt yesterday, combined with temperatures falling below freezing overnight, has allowed patchy black ice to form on untreated ground surfaces across portions of eastern New York and adjacent western New England. Motorists traveling early this morning should allow extra time to reach their destination and be prepared to encounter patches of black ice. Bridges, overpasses and highway on and off ramps will be particularly vulnerable to patches of black ice.
