Description:
At 1038 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Mingo, or 14
miles northeast of Altoona, moving east at 35 mph.
HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
SOURCE...Trained weather spotters.
IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to
roofs, siding, and trees.
Locations impacted include...
Des Moines, Ankeny, Urbandale, Johnston, Altoona, Grimes, Bondurant,
Polk City, Saylorville, Mitchellville, Colfax, Baxter, Adventureland
Amusement Park, Prairie Meadows, Saylorville Lake, Maxwell, Elkhart,
Collins, Alleman, and Rhodes.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 35 between mile markers 87 and 98.
Interstate 80 between mile markers 128 and 133, and between mile
markers 137 and 163.
Instruction:
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.
Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading
killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to
be struck by lightning.
