Rip Current Statement
Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
March 9, 2026 - 10:16am
Expires:
March 9, 2026 - 11:00pm
Description:
* WHAT...Large breaking waves between 7 to 10 feet and dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...North facing reefs of the Marianas. For the High Rip Current Risk, north and east facing reefs. * WHEN...Until 4 PM ChST this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Long-period north to north-northeasterly swell continues to produce hazardous surf and a high risk of rip currents along north-facing reefs, and a high risk of rip currents to east facing reefs through at least this afternoon. Sea and swell heights look to relax over the next few days, but this advisory may be extended beyond this afternoon as the north swell and associated surf remains elevated.
Instruction:
Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
