Rip Current Statement
Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
March 8, 2026 - 11:13am
Expires:
March 9, 2026 - 1:15am
Description:
* WHAT...Large breaking waves between 8 to 11 feet and dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...North facing reefs of the Marianas. For the High Rip Current Risk, north and east facing reefs. * WHEN...Until 4 PM ChST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Long-period northerly swell continues to move through the Marianas, producing hazardous surf and dangerous rip currents along north-facing reefs through Tuesday afternoon. A broad, disorganized tropical disturbance southwest of the Marianas and a shear line across the CNMI is leading to an increase in north to northeast swell, which is bringing a high risk of rip currents to east facing reefs as well.
Instruction:
Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
