Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
March 7, 2026 - 10:22am
Expires:
March 8, 2026 - 12:30am
Description:
* WHAT...Large breaking waves between 8 to 11 feet and dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...North facing reefs of the Marianas. For the High Rip Current Risk, north and east facing reefs. * WHEN...Until 4 PM ChST Monday. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Long-period northerly swell continues to move through the Marianas, producing hazardous surf and dangerous rip currents along north-facing reefs through Monday afternoon. A broad tropical disturbance approaching from southwest of the Marianas and a shear line across the CNMI will lead to an increase in north to northeast swell. This will also cause a high risk of rip currents along east facing reefs through the weekend.
Instruction:
Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
