* WHAT...Large breaking waves between 7 to 10 feet and dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...North facing reefs of the Marianas. * WHEN...For the High Surf Advisory, until 4 PM ChST Monday. For the High Rip Current Risk, through Monday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Long-period northerly swell continues to move through the Marianas, producing hazardous surf and dangerous rip currents along north-facing reefs through Monday afternoon. Over the weekend, a broad tropical disturbance moves to the south, in Yap State, and a shear line becomes draped over the CNMI, leading to an increase in north to northeast swell. This could potentially lead to a high risk of rip currents along east facing reefs over the weekend.
Instruction:
Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. Rip currents will be life threatening. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
