Description:
* WHAT...Large breaking waves between 8 to 10 feet and dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...North facing reefs of the Marianas. * WHEN...Until 4 PM ChST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The north swell built in quicker than anticipated. This swell is expected to gradually build through the work week. Looking further ahead a tropical disturbance is anticipated to move near the Marianas, this will keep surf elevated, albeit on different reefs. South and west facing reefs should especially pay attention as this continues to develop.
Instruction:
Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
