...VERY STRONG WINDS AND CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THURSDAY...
.Strong west-southwest winds will develop Thursday morning ahead
of a cold front. Despite recent light precipitation, westerly
sustained winds of 35 to 50 mph with gusts in excess of 70 mph
will combine with daytime minimum relative humidity to yield
critical fire weather conditions. Cold front will shift winds out
of the northwest Thursday afternoon with continued gusts in excess
of 60-70 mph despite rising relative humidity.
The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a Red Flag
Warning for gusty winds and low relative humidity, which is in
effect from 11 AM MDT /noon CDT/ to 7 PM MDT /8 PM CDT/ Thursday.
* AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 315 Southern Campbell, 317
Weston County Plains, 321 Southern Black Hills, 322 Fall River
County Area, 324 Eastern Foot Hills, 325 Custer County Plains,
326 Pine Ridge Area, 329 West Central Plains, 331 Haakon
County Area, 332 Badlands Area, 333 Bennett County Area, 334
Mellette and Todd Counties and 335 Tripp County.
* WINDS...West 35 to 50 mph with gusts up to 75 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 18 percent.
* IMPACTS...The combination of gusty winds and low relative
humidity would produce critical fire weather conditions.
Instruction:
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
