...CRITICAL WILDFIRE CONDITIONS WILL BE PRESENT FOR INLAND AREAS
OF SOUTHEAST GEORGIA FROM LATE SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH EARLY
SATURDAY EVENING...
.A combination of a dry airmass and very breezy northeast winds
on Saturday will align with critically dry, drought-stricken fuel
beds to create conditions conducive to erratic wildfire behavior.
The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Red
Flag Warning for inland areas of southeast Georgia, generally
locations along and northwest of line from Homerville through
Waycross and Jesup. This Red Flag Warning is in effect from 11 AM
to 8 PM EDT Saturday. The previous Fire Weather Watch has been
upgraded to the Red Flag Warning.
* AFFECTED AREA...In Georgia, Coffee, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling
and Atkinson.
* TIMING...Late Saturday morning through early Saturday evening.
* WINDS...Northeast 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 20 percent.
* TEMPERATURES...Up to 68.
* LIGHTNING...
* IMPACTS...Existing wildfires may behave erratically during the
afternoon and evening hours Saturday. Controlling new and
existing wildfires will become more difficult for responding
land managers and firefighters.
Instruction:
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
