Description:
The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a Red Flag
Warning for the combined Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles, which is
in effect from noon to 9 PM CDT Thursday. A Fire Weather Watch has
also been issued. This Fire Weather Watch for windy and dry
conditions is in effect from Friday afternoon through Friday
evening. The Fire Weather Watch for Thursday is no longer in
effect.
* WINDS...For Warning: Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35
mph. For Watch: Southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...For Warning: As low as 5 percent. For Watch:
As low as 8 percent.
* TEMPERATURES...In the 80s.
* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will have the potential to
spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
* SEVERITY...
FUELS (ERC)...90th+ percentile...5 (out of 5).
WEATHER...Near Critical...2 (out of 5).
FIRE ENVIRONMENT...7 (out of 10).
Instruction:
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now...or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures will
create favorable weather for rapid fire growth and spread. Avoid
activities that promote open flames and sparks.
A Fire Weather Watch means that the potential for critical fire
weather conditions exists. Listen for later forecasts and
possible red flag warnings.
