Description: 
At 556 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Melrose, or 25 miles northwest of Portales, moving northeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Melrose and Saint Vrain. This includes Highway 60 between Mile Markers 349 and 372.
Instruction: 
Monitor the weather situation closely and be alert for threatening weather conditions. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. Motorists can expect brief but sudden changes in visibility and ponding of water on roadways as storms move through the area.
