At 251 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 5 miles southwest of Elk, or 36 miles southeast of Ruidoso, moving east at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Elk and Dunken. This storm is severe in Otero County. It will cross into southwest Chaves County in the next half hour, potentially with large hail and damaging winds.
