Description:
...RED FLAG WARNING FOR THE NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS AND NORTHEAST PLAINS UNTIL 7 PM MDT TODAY DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY... ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH FOR MUCH OF EASTERN NEW MEXICO TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY... .Strong southwest winds will continue across northeastern New Mexico through this afternoon. Gusts of 35 to 45 mph will be commonplace, while humidities drop below 15 percent for the second straight day. While portions of the area, particularly Harding and eastern San Miguel counties, received wetting rainfall on Friday and Saturday afternoons, these dry conditions will rapidly dry out fine fuels such as grasses. Strong winds and low humidity will redevelop Tuesday across a larger area of eastern NM, bringing the potential for rapid fire spread to areas that received little rainfall from this past Friday and Saturday. * AREA AND TIMING...Northeast Plains (Zone 104) and Northeast Highlands (Zone 123) until 7 PM MDT today and again Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening. * 20 FOOT WINDS...Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph today. Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph Tuesday. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Minimum values 9 to 16 percent today and 11 to 16 percent on Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
