...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in Michigan... Sturgeon River near Alston affecting Baraga and Houghton Counties. .Warming temperatures will accelerate snowmelt this week. Flows in rivers will increase quickly and reach critical levels. Rainfall, potentially heavy at times, could be seen this week, which may result in rivers rising above the current forecast. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. This approaches the flood of record. * WHERE...Sturgeon River near Alston. * WHEN...Until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 11.0 feet, Additional homes and structures near the river are impacted and evacuations may be necessary. Water levels may reach the bottom of Froberg bridge in addition to other bridges that cross the river * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 9:30 PM EDT Thursday the stage was 8.9 feet. - Bankfull stage is 7.5 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 9:30 PM EDT Thursday was 8.9 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 12.3 feet Saturday evening. - Flood stage is 8.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 11.9 feet on 04/18/2002. - www.weather.gov/safety/flood
