Description: 
At 634 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Franklinton to near Independence. Movement was southeast at 40 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Hammond, Bogalusa, Covington, Franklinton, Amite, Ponchatoula, Amite City, Abita Springs, Independence, Albany, Madisonville, Folsom, Sun, Enon, Natalbany, Robert, Bush, Tickfaw, and W Lk Pontchartrain Buoy. This includes the following Interstates... Interstate 12 between mile markers 34 and 66. Interstate 55 in Louisiana between mile markers 18 and 48.
Instruction: 
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
