Description:
At 511 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms
capable of producing waterspouts over marine areas along a line
extending from 6 miles northeast of Port Sulphur to 11 miles
southwest of Pointe A La Hache. Movement was southeast at 20 mph.
HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts up to 50 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally
hazardous waters. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs
and blow around unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include...
Port Sulphur, Boothville-venice, Boothville, Pointe A La Hache,
Empire, Buras, Leeville, Buras-triumph, Venice, Boothville Asos, and
Grand Isle.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or
inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from
the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be
caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
