Description:
At 848 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from Poplarville to near Covington to near Albany.
Movement was southeast at 25 mph.
HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 to 40 mph and penny size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Slidell, Hammond, Picayune, Covington, Poplarville, Ponchatoula,
Pearl River, Abita Springs, Livingston, Albany, Madisonville,
Springfield, Sun, Lacombe, Natalbany, Robert, Bush, Mcneil, Saucier,
and Killian.
This includes the following Interstates...
Interstate 12 between mile markers 24 and 79.
Interstate 55 in Louisiana between mile markers 12 and 36.
Interstate 59 in Louisiana between mile markers 5 and 11.
Interstate 59 in Mississippi between mile markers 1 and 33.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
If on or near marine areas, get out of the water and move indoors or
inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from
the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close
enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be
caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
Persons in campgrounds should consider seeking sturdy shelter until
these storms pass.
