Description:
At 653 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Virden, or near Stanton, moving northeast at 20 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Mount Sterling, Stanton, Owingsville, Frenchburg, Jeffersonville,
Camargo, Clay City, Clay Lick, Means, Levee, Preston, Cornwell,
Rothwell, Walkers Crossing, Cedar Groves, Coons Station, Stepstone,
Bean, Bourbon Furnace, and Waltersville.
THIS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING HIGHWAYS...
Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway between mile markers 12 and 18.
Interstate 64 in eastern Kentucky between mile markers 120 and 122.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Conditions are favorable for the development of weak, brief funnel
clouds. This type of funnel cloud is harmless, but on rare occasions
they can briefly touch down, producing wind gusts over 50 mph. If a
funnel cloud is spotted move indoors and report your sighting to the
National Weather Service.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
