Future
Effective:
April 13, 2026 - 10:48am
Expires:
April 14, 2026 - 3:00am
Description:
Wind gusts up to 35 mph are forecast for today in the Red Flag
Warning area but the strongest winds may be a bit more sporadic
than what was initially anticipated. A period of northwesterly
winds early this afternoon may occur across Logan and Gove
counties. For the Fire Weather Watch Tuesday. Highest confidence
in multiple hours of critical conditions is across Cheyenne county
Colorado and Greeley county. Other counties, especially further
east are more questionable due to the positioning of a developing
low pressure system. If the low sets up to far south then winds
may not be as strong.
The National Weather Service in Goodland has issued a Fire
Weather Watch for wind and low relative humidity, which is in
effect from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening.
* AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 028 Logan, 029 Gove, 041
Greeley and 042 Wichita.
* TIMING...For the Red Flag Warning, until 8 PM MDT /9 PM CDT/
this evening. For the Fire Weather Watch, from Tuesday morning
through Tuesday evening.
* WINDS...Southwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph today. 10
to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph for Tuesday.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 8 percent today and as low as 12
percent Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Unpredictable fire behavior. Any fires that develop
may rapidly grow and spread out of control.
Instruction:
Comply with burn bans and regulations. Avoid driving on dry grass
or brush. Maintain vehicle brakes and tires and secure tow chains
to avoid dragging. Never toss lit cigarettes onto the ground.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible
red flag warnings.
