Description:
At 905 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Richmond, or 9 miles north of Washington, moving northeast at 45 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Strong winds could break small tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include...
Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, Kalona, Tiffin, Wellman,
University Heights, Riverside, Hills, Oakdale, Richmond, Iowa City
Municipal Airport, Frytown, Windham, Johnson County Fairgrounds,
Hills Access, Cosgrove, Amish, F.W. Kent Park, and University Of
Iowa.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 80 in Iowa between mile markers 234 and 253.
Interstate 380 between mile markers 1 and 3.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until midnight CDT for
southeastern and east central Iowa.
