The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana has issued a
* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
Elkhart County in north central Indiana...
St. Joseph County in north central Indiana...
* Until 1100 PM EDT.
* At 1020 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from near South Bend to near Lakeville, moving east at 40
mph.
HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to
mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.
* Locations impacted include...
South Bend, Elkhart, Mishawaka, Goshen, Gulivoire Park, Simonton
Lake, Granger, Dunlap, Osceola, Wakarusa, Bristol, Lakeville,
Roseland, New Paris, Benton, Indian Village, Chain-o-lakes,
Crumstown, Woodland, and Lydick.
This includes Interstate 80 in Indiana between mile markers 68 and
101.
Instruction:
Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly
from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the
basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.
To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement
agency. They will send your report to the National Weather Service
office in Northern Indiana.
Intense thunderstorm lines can produce brief tornadoes and widespread
significant wind damage. Although a tornado is not immediately
likely, it is best to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of
a building. These storms may cause serious injury and significant
property damage.
A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 200 AM EDT for north central
Indiana...and southwestern Michigan.
