...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in
Illinois...
Kaskaskia River at Vandalia.
River forecasts are based on observed precipitation and forecast
precipitation for the next 24 hours.
* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
* WHERE...Kaskaskia River at Vandalia.
* WHEN...Until Saturday evening.
* IMPACTS...At 26.0 feet, The Dively and Vandalia Levees begin to be
overtopped.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 11:30 AM CDT Tuesday the stage was 21.1 feet.
- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending
at 11:30 AM CDT Tuesday was 21.1 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 26.1 feet
tomorrow evening. It will then fall below flood stage Friday
afternoon.
- Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 26.1
feet on 04/24/1944.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
