.STORM INFORMATION...
At 7 AM ChST...the center of Typhoon Sinlaku (04W) was located
near latitude 15.4N, longitude 145.3E. This was about 35 miles
northwest of Tinian, 35 miles northwest of Saipan, and 135 miles
north-northeast of Guam. Storm motion was north-northwest, 330
degrees, at 4 mph. Storm intensity was 130 mph.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW...
The eye of Typhoon Sinlaku (04W) is moving slowly north-northwest
and away from Tinian and Saipan. Winds up to 130 mph are still
found within the slow-moving eyewall, so winds of excess of 115
mph are still expected at Tinian and Saipan for a few more hours,
but as the eye moves off further to the north-northwest winds
will start to decrease. Tropical storm force winds still extend
across Rota and Guam, and will be slow to subside across the
Marianas due to the size of the storm. Winds look to begin falling
below tropical storm force for Guam late tonight, Rota around
Thursday morning, and Tinian and Saipan Thursday evening or
Thursday night. Typhoon Sinlaku will begin to pass through the
northern CNMI just west of Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan, through
the latter half of the week.
Instruction:
People should remain in a designated shelter or in a sturdy and
reinforced concrete building. Strong tropical storm force winds are
still near the island to the north, but will start to slowly
decrease later this morning. Due to the size and slow movement of
the storm, tropical storm force winds will be slow to subside,
potentially beginning to fall below damaging levels late tonight
according to the latest forecast from the Joint Typhoon Warning
Center. Even when winds start to decrease, remain indoors until
the government of Guam gives the "all clear".
