A Typhoon Watch has now been issued for Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan. .AREAS AFFECTED... This local statement provides important information and recommended actions for people in Guam and the Northern Marianas. .WATCHES/WARNINGS... A Typhoon Watch is in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. A Typhoon Watch means that Typhoon conditions, including winds of 74 mph or more, are possible within 48 hours. A Flood Watch is in effect for all of Guam and the Northern Marianas. Please listen closely for any Flood Warnings that might be in effect for your area. Please check the latest public and marine forecasts for detailed information about additional hazards. .STORM INFORMATION... At 10 AM ChST...the center of Tropical Storm Sinlaku (04W) was located near latitude 8.5N...longitude 151.5E. This was about 570 miles southeast of Guam. The system has been nearly stationary. It is expected to make a turn toward the north-northwest with an increase in forward speed through Sunday as it treks toward the Marianas. Maximum sustained winds remain at 70 mph. Sinlaku is forecast to intensify through tonight, possibly becoming a typhoon as early as late afternoon today. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... A Typhoon Watch has now been issued.
