Description:
At 556 PM EDT, Chatham County Emergency Management reported ongoing
flash flooding in Pooler. Between 3 and 4 inches of rain have fallen.
Flash flooding is already occurring.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Emergency management reported.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Pooler, Savannah International Airport, Godley Station, I-16/I-95
Interchange, Garden City, Port Wentworth, Hardeeville,
Bloomingdale, Meinhard and Monteith.
At 541 PM EDT, Chatham County Emergency Management reported that the
intersection of Canal Street and Park Avenue in Pooler is closed due
to 12-18 inches of water. Also, USGS rain gages along Abercorn Creek
and the Savannah River in far southern Effingham County have measured
rainfall amounts in excess of 3 inches in the last 1 to 2 hours.
While the intensity of rainfall has diminished in the last 30
minutes, additional thunderstorms are developing and moving back into
the warned area.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
