Description:
* WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam on the Piscataquis River in
Maxfield and Howland continues.
* WHERE...Portions of East Central and North Central Maine,
including the following counties, in East Central Maine,
Penobscot. In North Central Maine, Piscataquis.
* WHEN...Until noon EDT Thursday.
* IMPACTS...Flooding of Maxfield and North Howland Roads.
Additionally flooding of properties near or in low-lying and
flood-prone locations between Maxfield and Howland is occurring.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 818 PM EDT, Penobscot County Emergency Management and the
Public reported flooding due to an Ice Jam on the Piscataquis
River in Maxfield to Howland. Flooding along the Maxfield and
North Howland Roads are threatening homes. Sections of the
North Howland Road is closed due to flooding in Maxfield.
Large ice chunks have been pushed into properties between
Maxfield and Howland.
- Water may rise upstream of the jam and cause low-lying
flooding in Medford downstream of Trestle Road.

Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Water levels can rise and fall quickly in the vicinity of ice jams.
Those with interests along rivers and tributary streams should be
alert for rapidly fluctuating water levels in the vicinity of ice
jams. Never drive through flooded roads or around closed road
barricades. The barricades are there for your safety due to the
potential for ice jam releases or continued flooding.
