Northern Tompkins County in central New York... * Until 715 PM EDT. * At 508 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Ithaca, Cortland, Homer, Virgil, Groton, Covert, Dryden, Trumansburg, Freeville, Taughannock Falls, South Cortland, Munsons Corners, Perry City, Mecklenburg, Searsburg, Reynoldsville, Cayuga Heights, Lansing, West Dryden and West Groton. Rainfall this morning has saturated the soils so additional rainfall from these thunderstorms will quickly run off and cause creeks and tributaries to rise.
