Description:
At 1226 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms produced heavy
rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have
fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding.
SOURCE...Radar.
IMPACT...Rapid-onset flooding of creeks, streams, drainage
ditches, streets, underpasses, low-lying areas, and
other poor drainage areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Joliet, Orland Park, Tinley Park, New Lenox, Homer Glen, Park
Forest, Mokena, Frankfort, Steger, Manteno, Braidwood, Wilmington,
Coal City, Dwight, Peotone, Richton Park, Frankfort Square, Crete,
University Park and Manhattan.
Another round of heavy rain is expected overnight which may lead to
additional flooding or worsen ongoing flooding.
Instruction:
A Flash Flood Warning means rapid-onset flooding is imminent or may
already be occurring. Persons along creeks, drainage ditches, and
other waterways should take immediate precautions to protect life
and property.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
